HARDBACK

Volume I in the Blackwell’s Library

The iconic Oxford University-set novel in the Lord Peter Wimsey series, one of the great British crime titles of the 20th Century.

Announcing Volume I in the Blackwell’s Library! Gaudy Night by Dorothy L Sayers | Blackwells.co.uk

Gaudy Night holds special significance as the first volume in the series, given Dorothy L. Sayers’s connection to the original and world-famous Blackwell’s Bookshop on Broad Street in Oxford.

Basil Blackwell taught her about publishing, and her early poetry, including Catholic Tales and Christian Songs—her second book—was published by Blackwell between 1916 and 1920. She also worked for Blackwell’s for a couple of years, based on the first floor of the Broad Street bookshop.

Dorothy L. Sayers taught herself to read Old Italian, and her translation of Dante’s The Divine Comedy, something she saw as her proudest achievement, is still in print today.
