ECOFAUXTM BRANCHES OUT

The latest specimens in our growing collection of EcoFauxTM botanicals include strikingly realistic branches and stems of blooming Dogwood, Scabiosa, and Quince. These are crafted from recycled and upcycled fabrics made from single use plastic or PET bottles that would ordinarily end up in landfill. And they’re zero maintenance. The only things these botanical beauties need are complementary handmade vases in natural materials, like the Little Gems vase by Gary Bodker (above) for a single stem of Pink Quince, or a Natural Tadelakt vase (coming in the fall) for branches of Dogwood Cornus florida white, and the hand-collected simple rustic Beach Stone Vase works well with all when branches are cut down in size.

SPRING ARRIVED LATE THIS YEAR

Our new collection of EcoFauxTM branches, stems, and pods was meant to arrive in early spring but due to Covid-19 closings, spring arrived in summer. Fortunately, flowering Dogwood, Scabiosa, and Quince look fresh no matter the season, especially simply arranged in handmade black or white ceramic vases. This is our second EcoFaux collection created in collaboration with author/stylist Hilary Robertson.

Top: Branches of White Dogwood in a matte black Kado vase secured with a Brass Frog. Note the realistic hues of the faded petals.
Middle: Scabiosa Pods in a Bauhaus-inspired Novah Pitcher by Syzygy.
Bottom: Branches of White Quince in a matte white Buranchi vase, designed in collaboration with renowned stylist/author, Hilary Robertson and slip cast by potter Michiko Shimada

EVERY VASE A GEM

Gary Bodker is a Portland, Oregon-based glass artist who designs and produces functional glassware in rich, beautiful colors, including his signature handmade Little Gem and Big Gem vases. Gary designs these pieces in complementary shapes and sizes that mesh together organically. Use them to create minimalist displays with smaller branches and stems, real or EcoFaux, or cluster them together as shimmering sculptures and watch them catch and reflect the light. Donate to Conservation International

We can’t help but think that these unsettling times are a wake-up call from a planet in distress. Whether through climate change, forest fires, emergent tropical diseases, loss of freshwater, or a global pandemic, Mother Earth is reminding us that the well-being of the human species and the health and biodiversity of the planet are inextricably linked. It has never been clearer that saving nature is really about saving ourselves. To help maintain and restore the health of the earth, we have teamed up with Conservation International, an organization that works to protect nature around the world. For every $25 you donate to Conservation International you’ll save an acre of this ancient forest and protect critical species. And through the months of June and July, we’ll match your gift to the earth when you use this link to donate. Bloomist will match donations up to 1% of our annual revenue. See our 1% pledge
