It isn’t easy to break this news, but Bohemia will soon be closing her doors for the very last time.
We’ll keep trading until the end of August and would really love for you to stay with us as we enter the final chapter of our journey.
40 years of running a business is not for the faint-hearted, and over this time we’ve successfully weathered many storms, but these past few years have been particularly challenging - Brexit, Covid, rising costs, a weakened economy and now US tariffs.
The upcoming lease renewal and a rent increase on our warehouse is, very sadly, one step beyond.
Bohemia has always been a family affair, a magical collaboration between our dear artisan partners, our fantastic Edinburgh team and, of course, you, our brilliantly loyal customers from across the globe.
I have dedicated my life to artisan craft and believe more than ever in the value these objects of humble beauty bring to our world. The artisan communities we work with have a deep reverence for nature and the materials she provides - earth, wood, fibre. They are vital custodians of culture, keepers of knowledge and creativity, offering us a continuous thread woven through human history.
It has been an incredible privilege to be able to travel the world and live and work amongst so many talented artisan communities. My happiest hours have been spent in small workshops collaborating on new designs and sharing stories over glasses of sweet mint tea.
In the space that opens up, I will take some time to reflect on the place of slow, considered craft in a world drunk on speed, where cheap copies of authentic, handmade wares are flooding the market and squeezing out the genuine artist.
And I will continue to champion craft in all its forms, whatever comes next.
At this poignant moment, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your faith in Bohemia and for welcoming our art into your lives and homes. I am deeply grateful for the support you have given us since the very beginning; without you, we wouldn’t have made it this far.
As we start to wind things down, we are already selling out of some of your favourite pieces and we would encourage you not to delay if there is something you have your eye on. We are planning to host some warehouse open days to clear stock, along with all the fixtures and fittings.
