Your weekly meal plan

Welcome to Bon Appétit 3-2-1—your cooking countdown to the week—where we take care of meal planning so you don’t have to. Each Sunday we share three dinners; two breakfast, lunch, or brunches; and one dessert (because you saved room, right?).

With school back in session and Labor Day tomorrow, we are entering the funny, few-week stretch when everyone claims that summer is over. But it’s not. It’s still here—and so are the tomatoes and corn and basil—until September 22, autumn’s astrological start. And you know what? At least in my corner of the country (everyone’s favorite state, New Jersey), the tomatoes will stick around even longer than that. Let’s make the most of them.

Gochujang Chicken Stir-Fry

A snappy stir-fry for hurried nights. It’s got your protein and veg covered. Just serve with rice from the rice cooker and call it a day. One reader sums it up well—“10/10. No notes.”

Fancy and Beautiful Tomato Salad

Not a dinner on its own but: Add a can of chickpeas. Or grilled chicken. Or seared salmon. Or how about a juicy steak? I owe my husband a rain-check birthday dinner and that sounds right up his alley.

Spiced Salmon With Potatoes and Corn (Gift Link)

This one’s on the house—Old Bay fans, assemble! Inspired by a seafood boil, this sheet-pan supper embraces sweet corn and those cutie-patootie potatoes at the farmers market these days.

Make-Ahead Breakfast Sandwiches

Cue 8 a.m. in my neighborhood and everyone is walking at 1.5x speed, trying to make that train or bus or minivan. Move it! These sandwiches are on the same page. Assemble over the weekend, freeze, then microwave before dashing out the door.

Cream Cheese and Olive Sandwich

Less recipe, more way of life. Between sliced bread, this curiously magical combo would be a lunchbox standout. (Hoping my son agrees.) Or, for an at-home desk lunch, take a cue from my nana and go open-faced with matzo.

Easiest Vanilla Cake

The thing about a cake this easy is—you don’t need a special occasion like an anniversary or piano recital to make it. “It’s Sunday” is reason enough. Rainbow sprinkles would be welcome, but you knew that already.
