As we crisscross the country on the hunt for the Best New Restaurants of the year, Bon Appétit editors eat pretty well—and we’re often very full. But! We’ve always got room for a little treat.

For me, that perfect little bit was an Okinawa Black Sugar Canelé, a darkly sweet bite I found at Parachute bakery in San Francisco. Other editors found treats like a perfect sticky toffee pudding, passionfruit lime icebox pie, and many more.

Super Seedy Power Cookies

Imagine everything you want in breakfast—a little bit of fiber, a touch of protein, and just enough sweetness to perk you up—but in cookie form. These super seedy power cookies are exactly that. Made with just eggs, coconut sugar (light brown sugar will also work), vanilla, and a wealth of seeds, these gluten-free, refined-sugar-free cookies are just as fit for breakfast as they are for dessert. They come together lightning fast, can be prepped days in advance and stashed in the freezer. They are a great on-the-go breakfast to give you ample energy and keep you satiated until lunch. The center is chewy, the exterior is crisp, and the texture magically gets better with time.

A slow cooker is a handy and unsung extension of your stovetop when cooking for big events like Thanksgiving or Super Bowl Sunday. You can braise short ribs, make chili, or cook a whole chicken. The list goes on!

My fellow Bon Appétit contributors and I have tested several models of slow cookers and have landed on one slow cooker to rule them all. Read on for our top pick, and keep scrolling for more on our methodology, plus the other machines we tested and enjoyed.
