A few months back, my team was sent new reusable food containers to test out. The brand's whole schtick is that the holders look like classic plastic deli containers—of grocery store pasta salad and takeout Thai food fame—but are made from reusable silicone instead of flimsy plastic. They’re called Anydelis, and Olivia, Noah, Alaina and I spent a few months dropping them, staining, them, traveling with them, and washing them, to name a few verbs. I go into our very serious scientific findings down below.

A Deli Container, but Make It Silicone...Worth It?

By Wilder Davies

Deli containers, those clear plastic cylinders that hold bagel schmears, pickles, and the occasional illicit public beach cocktail, enjoy vaunted status in the food world. Their cheap convenience and ubiquity in restaurant service is a big reason any person with a food or food-adjacent job (including just about everybody who works at this magazine) has a collection of these tumbling around in their cabinets.

The thing about deli containers is that they aren’t really meant to be reused forever. They degrade pretty quickly, especially if you’re throwing them in the dishwasher and the microwave—which you shouldn’t do. These new silicon containers, however, are another story.

Vegan Protein Powders That Legitimately Taste Good

By Alaina Chou

I don’t typically reach for vegan protein powder, and it’s not because I dislike protein powder (I’ve tested over 40 whey protein powders in search of the best). I simply prefer the taste of whey. So when I was tasked with finding a slate of plant-based options that taste good (oh, the joys of being BA’s resident packaged food and supplements reviewer), I was skeptical. The ones I’d tried were usually gritty, with tasting notes ranging from “copper pipe” to “sawdust.”

Several years and dozens of tubs later, I’ve tasted my way through the category in the name of journalism and lived to tell the tale (though I’ll let you guess how much havoc the research wreaked on my gastrointestinal system). My initial assessment held up: most vegan protein powders are hard to get down. A few, though, surprised me.

You Have 30 Minutes to Make Dinner. GO!

By Zoe Denenberg

These 30-minute dinner ideas are the ones we turn to time and time again—the faithful hits for when it’s 7 p.m. and we’re already starving. Make no mistake, though, quick is by no means synonymous with boring: Our favorite fast dinners include tangy kimchi quesadillas, spicy sausage patty melts, and sunny saffron butter pappardelle. All of these easy dinner ideas take a total time of 30 minutes or less, and a few come together in as little as 5 minutes. Less time spent cooking means more time spent doing…literally anything else.
