Brainrich Kids
Kids don't focus despite moving. They focus because they moved.
Hi there,
Before homework season tempts you to demand more sitting still, one finding is worth 60 seconds: researchers gave kids a single short bout of physical activity, then an attention test. Accuracy improved measurably within the hour (Flanker test, +5.67%, PMC9139511). One small study, but meta-analyses across the field point the same way. Not after a semester. The same afternoon.
Brainrich parents discovered this by accident:

Why movement runs the focus machinery
The wobble circuits are the willpower circuits. The cerebellar loops a child uses to correct a wobble on a ladder connect to the same prefrontal systems used to resist a distraction and hold instructions in mind. Climbing rehearses self-control.
Coordination and cognition rise together. In a study of 713 preschoolers, motor coordination and fitness correlated with every measured executive function: working memory, inhibitory control, cognitive flexibility (Frontiers in Public Health, 2026). Correlation, not a guarantee, but the pattern is consistent across the field.
Kids bank movement in bursts. Children don't do workouts. They accumulate activity in short spurts all day. A structure that invites twenty 5-minute climbs beats one forced exercise session.

Save this: the 20/3 Homework Block

20 minutes of work, then a 3-minute movement break. Repeat until done. Break menu:

• 10 swing passes

• 5 up-and-down ladder climbs

• 30-second hang, then 10 jumping jacks

• 10 floor-is-lava crossings

Two rules: breaks are physical, never screens. And end each break with a hang; it resets desk posture.

The 20/3 rhythm only survives if the movement is in sight of the homework table. That's the entire design brief of our gyms: the break station lives where the work happens, no transition, no negotiation.
