By October, after-school time has a default. For some kids it's hang, climb, swing, then homework. For most it's a screen, because screens are patient and they're always plugged in. Whatever fills the 3-to-6pm slot in September tends to still be filling it in February.

Two findings we haven't shown you yet

The quiet cost of the screen default is displacement. Every screen hour is an hour not spent climbing, pretending, or moving. That trade-off is exactly how the American Academy of Pediatrics frames its screen guidance. And in one JAMA Pediatrics study of preschoolers (2020), heavier screen use was associated with less-organized white matter in the brain tracts supporting language and early literacy. An association, not proof of cause, but a real flag.

Grip strength is a development marker. Researchers use it as a proxy for a child's broader strength and growth. It's built one way: hanging, climbing, carrying, swinging. Daily, in small doses. The whole series, in four lines

1. School fills the day with sitting. Home has to supply the movement.

2. Movement isn't a break from focus. It's what produces it.

3. Rooms beat rules: give movement its own zone and kids regulate themselves.

4. Pre-tax dollars (HSA/FSA, and ESA in some states) can cover it for qualifying families.

Where inventory stands: nothing has sold out yet, but our stock is limited and, at the current pace, we'll likely run out before the end of October if nothing changes. Most years we sell out by mid or late November and can't restock before Christmas. Restocks cross the ocean and take months, so once a model is gone this fall, it's gone until winter.
