How long does it take someone to choose a local business?

According to our Consumer Search Behavior Survey, probably less time than you think.

This is the first in a new research series exploring how consumers search for local businesses online.

Here's what we found:

84% of consumers have searched for a local business in the last three months. That's a lot of potential customers searching for businesses like yours. So why do some businesses get chosen while others get overlooked?

The answer may come down to time.

That leaves a surprisingly small window to make an impression.

Decision speed varies by industry and search intent, but the overall pattern is clear. Most consumers don't spend long comparing businesses before choosing one.

Even people researching prices or exploring multiple options often decide faster than many business owners expect.

Only 1% look at more than ten. In other words, you're not competing with every local business in your area. You're competing for a place on the shortlist.

The businesses that get chosen aren't always the ones with the best website or the most reviews. They're the businesses consumers can find, trust, and choose quickly.
