Working nine to five

The organ of the Communist Party of Great Britain, Workers' Weekly was founded in 1923, following in the footsteps of the Communist newspaper, which was launched in August 1920. 'Made by the workers for the workers,' it paid close attention to working class concerns before being replaced by the Workers' Life in January 1927.

Founded by Dublin printer and bookseller George Faulkner in 1725, who was famed for his publishing relationship with Jonathan Swift, the Dublin Journal soon gained a large audience. After Faulkner's death in 1775, the paper became known as a 'violent Tory organ,' before ceasing publication in 1825.

Launched in 1989, the Aberdeen Herald & Post provided for its readers a roundup of the week's news, sports and local events. Distributed to 75,000 homes across the city of Aberdeen and the surrounding area, it became known as the Aberdeen Citizen in 2002 before stopping publication in May 2018.

For example, it provides the testimony of three women who took part in a demonstration against strikebreakers in County Durham in October 1926. These women faced alleged police brutality, although one remarked how she would not let any man touch her, 'let alone the police.'
