We’ve been getting a few questions lately about a new article doing the rounds claiming some supplements are “risky” at higher doses.
One of the ones they’re talking about of course is Vitamin D.
I’ll be writing a full email about this and sending it out on Wednesday once I’ve compiled all the science (again), but here’s the short version:
The same thing is happening that always happens. The mainstream media (and uneducated doctors) pick a story written by people who don’t actually understand what they’re talking about, outdated information, recycled from the same “safe upper limit” that was set in the 1940's.
The UK government still recommends vitamin D at 400 IU a day.
Do you know why? Because that’s the dose that stops rickets, a bone-softening disease from the early 1900s.
It’s not a dose designed for you to thrive. It’s a dose designed to stop you falling apart.
Our Vitamin D+K2 is 10,000 IU, because that’s what’s actually supported by modern science.
And yes, it’s safe. 100% safe.
Here’s what the Frontiers in Endocrinology review (NIH PMC 6158375) says directly:
“Daily intakes of up to 10,000 IU vitamin D₃ are considered safe in healthy adults.”
“Vitamin D toxicity is very rare, and generally occurs only after months of intake above 100,000 IU/day.”
“The currently accepted ‘upper limit’ of 4,000 IU/day is very conservative and set far below levels shown to cause harm.”

So next time you see scare headlines about “risky” supplements, remember, they’re quoting from outdated papers designed to minimise risk on paper, not maximise health in reality.
I take 30,000 IU myself every day, and have done so for over five years. I feel amazing on it.
If you ever actually overdose on Vitamin D (which would take insane amounts 100,000IU per day for months or even years), your body gives you clear signals first, it’s not sudden, and it’s easily reversible.

They keep trying to paint us as the problem, when in reality all we do is tell the truth and give people real choice.
It’s as if they’ve become the enemy of the people, defending outdated polices written decades ago, while ignoring all the modern science and even going back to the 1940's there are scientific studies on people taking 100-200,000IU per day for months, some with side effects and some without.
Every one of these agencies, doctors, and journalists seem to sing from the same hymn sheet, a hymn sheet written by theirpaymasters, the same pharmaceutical industry that profits from keeping people sick.
They haven’t updated their “official advice” since the 1940's, or I should say they have but they have kept it the same for vitamin D at 400IU, even America have it at 4,000IU. Maybe if it was set at that the UK doctors wouldn't have a hernia when you tell them you are taking our 10,000IU.
I wonder why its so low?
If someone asked me: Chris I can only afford one supplement what would you recommended ?
Vitamin D+K 10,000IU no matter what age you are.

Magnesium glycinate

Supplements that work!
"There’s no doubt about it, the clean supplements from British Supplements work, plus there’s no rubbish in them, 100% clean, and 100% effective! I track my sleeping and since taking the Mucuna my deep sleep has begun to improve (been taking for a few weeks, most days, but not every day),

NAC for lungs
"My husband suffers from COPD and has been taking this supplement along with Lungwort for 2-3 months now. His breathing has improved immeasurably and he has had no chest infections since being on them so a huge improvement.

Rhodiola has given me my life back.

Helped release mucus
"I have been taking BS NAC for several years due to having asthma and COPD. Excellent Turmeric
"I have had various products from British Supplements over the past 3 years. I stopped taking their turmeric for my arthritic finger joints about 6 months ago, bought a bog standard one from the chemist to see the difference.
And needless to say the stiffness and pain came back within a few weeks so have re started on the turmeric from BS again and I am probably 3 weeks in and I am already feeling the difference - not as stiff - and we are coming into winter!
Other products I use and can say I have seen difference are Creatine - helps with focus as well as increasing strength (and no I haven’t developed huge muscles!!),

Great products great service great company
"Ive tried many on the market products and they do, to a small degree, work. But I was always surprised that the supplement was at the end of the ingredient list. When in actual fact it was supposed to be the main ingredient to the product.
Not so with British supplements there is no talcum powder added there is no silicon dioxide added. There is no, well, let’s be fair crap added to these products and they work a lot quicker.
I’ve been using the turmeric, vitamin C glutamine and many other of their products and found them to work quickly, effectively with no nasty side effects.
They may not be the cheapest, but how much is your health worth? It’s one of the best companies if not The best company supplying good quality crap free supplementation

Excellent Product with no side effects
"I saw your Clean Milk Thistle supplements featured on the British Supplements web site. I have diagnosed Lymphoma and medically controlled Hypertension.
I was drawn to the advantages of skin care and repair, psoriasis, boosting immunity and detoxification of the liver.
As a side effect of the Lymphoma treatment, it makes me prone to bruising, suppressing my immune system and effects my liver function. I have noticed an improvement to my skin (less bruising and quicker repair) and for the first couple of weeks the detoxification.
My psoriasis has also started to recede and is not as red and angry looking. As we enter the flu and cold season I am hoping there will be an improvement to my immunity system as well!
I have used British Supplements for some time and find them much more effective to me personally then the large, branded products.

Clean genuine MSM capsules
