Love that passes down through time

A mother’s love never ends. It evolves over time, and carries on through the generations.

Helen and Babs, mothers and grandmothers, came to understand this first-hand. Sitting together in an open conversation, they bonded over how that love has shifted over the years, and what it looks like now.

Babs learned from her mother that love is giving someone the space to be themselves. She passed it on not through words, but through action. The patience when one of her children had a difficult start. The calm in her voice even in a disagreement. The respect she held for everyone around her.

Helen’s path was different. Growing up in Curaçao, self-acceptance was something she figured out on her own, rather than being taught by her mother. From the moment she held her son for the first time, she knew: She wanted him, and all her children, to grow up wholly accepting of themselves.

Now, as grandmothers, they do the same — only differently. They step back, and leave room for their children to find their own way into parenthood. In doing so, lessons of self-love and acceptance are passed down to the next generation.
