Hey Friend,
Lots of people have asked me for more information on BugMD’s Essential Pest Concentrate, which is why the question I’ll be answering today is:
“Do I have to spray Pest Concentrate directly on bugs or does it work as a repellent?”
The answer is: BugMD’s Essential Pest Concentrate is a “kill on contact” solution. It does NOT leave any active residue, which means it's safe once dry because the pest-killing compounds are no longer active. This is why it must be applied directly to areas where bugs are present.
The biggest benefit of Essential Pest Concentrate is that, when used as directed, it’s kid-safe and pet-safe. It can be used everyday — indoors, outdoors, on bedding, carpets, furniture, and even on furry pets.
And that's what makes BugMD so different from store-bought bug sprays that use toxic chemical insecticides like permethrin, deltamethrin (DEET), and esfenvalerate.
If you use products with these chemicals, you should know that even though they can still kill bugs after they dry, they’re NOT kid-safe or pet-safe.
In fact, according to the National Pesticide Information Center, permethrin — one of the most common ingredients in store-bought sprays — is toxic and potentially extremely harmful to humans and pets.1
“Dogs and cats that have permethrin on their skin may act strangely, twitch their skin or ears, or roll on the ground. Animals that have licked treated skin may drool or smack their lips. Cats that have been exposed to products with high levels of permethrin may seem anxious and can't walk normally. They may also have muscle tremors and seizures and they may die from the exposure.
“When people get permethrin on their skin, they may have irritation or tingling, burning and itching at that spot. If permethrin gets in the eyes it can cause redness, pain or burning. … People that have breathed in permethrin have had irritation in the nose and lungs, difficulty breathing, headaches, dizziness, nausea and vomiting.” 1
That’s why I don’t feel safe using those types of pest-control products in my home.
And that's exactly why we created BugMD's Essential Pest Concentrate — as a family-safe alternative to the toxic stuff people have been using for decades.
Our Essential Pest Concentrate kills insects just like other products, but unlike many of those other products, when used as directed, Essential Pest Concentrate is SAFE to use around kids and pets. That’s because the active ingredients are just essential oils: clove oil and cottonseed oil.
In addition to Essential Pest Concentrate, if you haven't checked out our full line of family-safe pest control products yet, I'd recommend starting with Termination Station, No Fly Zone, or Cockroach Catcher. These are quickly becoming fan favorites!
Keep an eye out for the next one!
Wishing you a bug-free home,
Joe Ponzillo
