If you’ve seen me lately on Instagram, you’ve seen how much I’ve been wearing scarves. And honestly, this isn’t new for me , I’ve always loved a scarf. I have a small collection of silk ones that I’ve gathered over the years: a few Hermès, a few less precious, some from my days living in Dubai and Hong Kong that carry a kind of sentimental weight I could never part with. A silk scarf feels like a perfectly thoughtful gift, so when my husband gave me my first Hermès scarf a decade ago it felt like I should keep it in the box and wear it only for special occasions, but I’ve come to realize that scarves are a great asset to almost any outfit and perhaps the most versatile thing in a wardrobe. Plus, there’s just something so effortlessly chic about a silk scarf. Around the neck, the shoulders, and most recently the waist-tie has become my new favorite way to dress up a simple dress, tank top, or casual set. And if you have a scarf that is not real silk (likely Satin or polyester), by all means… wear it as cover up!

I went to the Dallas launch of Mark Sikes new collection with J. McLaughlin … I threw on a pair of jeans with a Polo sweater and the scarf took did the heavy lifting. This very casual look of white jeans and my favorite and MOST comfortable sandals, was instantly elevated by a simple scarf. Tip for shopping- Etsy is a great place to find vintage Hermes and designer inspired scarves, similar to some of these Equestrian scarves I wear. ( I am obsessed with this bag also.)

Then at the Dallas Longchamp store for their newly reopened store event that something clicked. Funny enough I wore an Hermès scarf around my neck without even realizing Longchamp has a fabulous new line of scarves right now. My very chic friend Lo Boscamp was wearing a Longchamp scarf around her waist, with a pair of shorts and rubber boots. Standing there surrounded by their gorgeous scarves, I was reminded of just how powerful and perfect this accessory really is. Not just because of how beautiful a silk scarf looks, but because of what it does — the way it can completely transform an outfit, shift a color palette, or elevate the simplest thing you own. What I’ve been obsessing over lately is the way you can change the entire feeling of a scarf just by how you fold it. A wide fold reads bold and graphic. A narrow fold feels delicate and refined. Not to mention when a colorful scarf has multiple color scheme that change from each direction. Tucked differently, the same scarf becomes a completely different palette or accessory. It’s the best kind of magic trick. Here is the one I came home with.
