Here's a fascinating history lesson: back in the 90s and early 00s, manufacturing went overseas.
China gets a lot of guff, but their manufacturing expertise is pretty incredible. One of the things they did in the sock industry is create faster, more efficient ways to spin fiber into yarn.
For most sock brands, this was a great thing. Make more socks for cheaper. Sounds great.
The thing is, this method of spinning yarn also makes the yarn more brittle. Now that doesn't matter if you're just trying to make and sell as many socks as possible.
But if you want durability? Well, not so good.
We make our socks in the USA. And while we have access to these new-fangled machines, at the time of starting our company, we had to go with the machines that were "being phased out."
We got put on the "Junior Varsity" team, so to speak. No one trusted the new guy to take over the fancy new machines that were doing the volume. But they could put us on the old stuff.
Turns out, that "old stuff" was the good stuff. And the result is that our wool yarn has 52% more tensile strength.
So you can do things like this >>
