Hi there,
Welcome to this week's Monday Mindset Mastery.
Here's something that stops people in their tracks when they first hear it: you can love someone wholeheartedly, consistently, sincerely, and they can still not feel loved.
Not because you're not trying. But because you're speaking a language they can't quite hear.
This week, we're exploring the five love languages: one of the most useful frameworks for understanding why care sometimes misses, and what to do about it.
Before we dive in, this month every course in our catalogue is just £25 with code FLASH25.

What the Five Love Languages Actually Tell Us
The model was developed by Dr Gary Chapman, a marriage counsellor who noticed a pattern running through his work with couples.
People weren't failing to love each other. They were expressing love in the way that felt most natural to them, and hoping their partner would receive it. The problem was that what felt loving to one person often felt neutral or irrelevant to another.
His insight was that people tend to give and receive love in one of five primary ways: words of affirmation, quality time, acts of service, receiving gifts, or physical touch. And that when partners operate in different languages without realising it, even the most well-intentioned care can fail to land.
|
|
This framework matters beyond romantic relationships too. The same principle applies in friendships, family dynamics, and even professional relationships. When someone feels consistently unseen despite being cared for, it's often a love language mismatch at the root.
The Five Languages, Briefly
Words of affirmation: this person feels most loved when love is spoken. Specific compliments, sincere encouragement, and verbal reassurance land deeply. Silence, or love expressed only through action, can leave them feeling uncertain.
Quality time: this person needs your full, undivided attention. Not time in the same room, but genuine presence. Eye contact, active listening, and shared experiences without distraction are everything to them.
Acts of service: this person feels loved when you do things for them. Not out of obligation, but with care and attention. Noticing what would ease their day and doing it, unprompted, says more to them than words ever could.
Receiving gifts: this isn't about materialism. It's about thoughtfulness and the sense of being held in mind. A small gift that says "I thought of you" can mean the world. Forgotten occasions or empty-handed arrivals, even if explained, can feel like a signal of low priority.
Physical touch: this person feels connected through physical closeness. A hand on the shoulder, a hug hello, holding hands. Without this, even the most loving words can feel distant.

This week's Student of the Week is Mike, and he's studied widely across a range of subjects with us. Rather than chasing qualifications for a specific career goal, Mike has followed curiosity wherever it leads, trusting that knowledge rarely goes to waste. History. Dentistry. Photography. Writing.
Mike's philosophy is one we think every learner deserves to hear: learn widely, be curious, and follow interests that make no obvious sense right now. Because those seemingly random pieces are never truly random; they're simply waiting for the right moment to become part of a much bigger picture.
We love this perspective, and we love having you in our community, Mike. 💛
