A letter from Tessa...
When I got married, I didn't want the traditional wedding, and I didn't want to wear the traditional wedding outfit.
I remember my first bridal appointment with Christy Baird, the owner of Loho Bride. It was a spontaneous afternoon, styling the most untraditional separates together, like a button-up shirt with this voluminous canvas wrap skirt. Every piece I wore on my wedding day, I've worn again and again since, as separates, in totally different lives than the one they were supposed to have.
There's this pressure to buy things for your wedding day that you'll never touch again — one perfect day, then a box in the closet. I wanted to design a collection that was the opposite of that. Something you reach for on a random Friday date night years later and instantly remember how it made you feel the first time wearing it. To me, that’s the most romantic kind of heirloom.
This collection is dripping pearls, pearls woven into chain links, and Mother of pearl carved into bows. Techno Taffeta and Dupioni sets designed for courthouse weddings. Whimsical brooches made by my mother, each one sewn by hand at our Los Angeles studio. A delicate tulip brooch made from goose and rooster feathers that was originally designed for the groom to wear on a lapel, but it’s the kind of piece that can be passed back and forth. The gauze veil you see below is from my wedding day.
