Most of my ideas don’t begin at a desk. They come to life on the factory floor, designing alongside artisans, making revisions inch by inch in real time. These trips are my favorite part of the job. Every visit uncovers something new — a different embroidery technique, a new way to apply sequins, an unexpected material, or a small detail that ends up shaping an entire collection. My recent trip to India was exactly that, and we wanted to bring you along.
I spent days deep in the process: watching the crinkle effect come to life on our ombré caftans, following freshly embroidered mother-of-pearl waist belts through each stage, and sitting with the Vienna Coat mid-embroidery as it took shape. We celebrated birthdays with samosas and cake, and found inspiration for a new necklace launching this September.
Evenings were spent designing at the hotel after long days at the factory, unwinding with red wine à la piscine, and throwing back a cold soda when the 110-degree heat became too much. And of course, no trip to Delhi is complete without a stop at my favorite tea shop for Darjeeling and Assam.
After every trip, I’m reminded why I make the journey at least six times a year. The best work happens shoulder to shoulder with the artisans whose craftsmanship, patience, and ideas shape every collection. I can’t wait to share the pieces that grew out of this trip.
