Hi there! I’m Christine, and I lead our remote sensors program at charity: water, where we use real-time data to monitor water points and keep them working over time. I’m excited to share an update with you because I recently saw this technology in action — and it was a powerful reminder of why this work matters.

Like any new technology, this program comes with real challenges. From field testing to manufacturing to implementation, we rely on a strong network of partners to move this work forward and continually improve reliability and usefulness. Through every step forward (and sometimes backward), I stay grounded in the impact we’re working toward.

In Uganda, this technology is already helping partners make better decisions, faster.

Managing the long-term sustainability of hand pumps often means long travel times, manual checks, and delayed information — leaving communities to rely on unsafe water sources when something breaks. With our remote sensing technology in place, that starts to change.

Now, partners can see data from all of their hand pumps in one user-designed dashboard. They can spot when a pump goes offline, detect patterns that may signal a potential failure, and prioritize repairs based on real-time data.

This shift means less downtime, faster repairs, and more reliable access to clean, safe water for communities. It allows our partners to use their time and resources more effectively.

And we’re just getting started. Over the next couple of months, we’ll expand the program to Malawi and bring our Afridev (V3) sensors to even more communities.

With the right tools in hand, our partners can deliver lasting, reliable water service more efficiently than ever. And thanks to you, that’s possible.

Sincerely,

Christine
