(South) pole position
Maidenhead and the Antarctic don’t have that much in common. But toward the end of 2026 one thing is certain: you’ll be able to find Christopher Ward watches in both locations.
We’re proud to announce our partnership with The Onwards Expedition, an endeavour that will see Max Worsley and Martin Nesse set out on a 1,349km, unsupported ski traverse of Antarctica that aims to shine a light on the vital role Antarctica plays in the health of our planet.
Their route will take them from the edge of the continent, just north of Berkner Island, to the Geographic South Pole – hauling their food, fuel and equipment with them. And that equipment includes an extraordinary technical watch created by Christopher Ward.
“Over two months, Max and Martin will face temperatures of -40°C, winds reaching 100mph and a relentless climb to 2,800 metres above sea level,” says designer Matthew Sweatman. “So we’re making a watch that can survive in the most extreme temperatures on earth.”
Max Worsley explains: “When I turned 18, my father gave me a Christopher Ward watch for my birthday, and to this day it remains one of my most treasured possessions. Ten years later, when I began planning The Onwards Expedition, I couldn’t think of a better partner than Christopher Ward. A British brand excelling in craftsmanship and pushing boundaries – they were a perfect partner for The Onwards Expedition.”
“When we talked to Max and Martin, their main requests were for GMT functionality and the ability to time their individual ‘marches’,” says junior product designer Michele Pozzi. “So we’ve used the C63 Sealander Extreme as our starting point, then added elements of the Trident Pro 300 – and True GMT.”
