Some thoughts on World Sight Day

Hey there,

Today is World Sight Day, which, as you can imagine, is a pretty big deal for us. A whole day dedicated to celebrating eyes? You must have known you were going to hear from me!

So, look – there are a few important things I want to reflect on: bear with me and close your eyes for a moment. Are they closed?

Of course not, you’re still reading this.

Okay fine – open or closed, I want you to think about some of the most important things you get to see. For me, it’s:

•	Noticing the tiny ways my kids grow up a little more every single day
•	The stunning view from our downtown Vancouver HQ (yes, even when it’s raining)
•	Catching sight of wildlife when I’m hiking in the mountains (and the relief I feel when I can see it’s not a bear)
•	The look of apprehension on my team’s face when I tell them I’m going to email all our customers and tell them to close their eyes and imagine the important things in their lives
•	Watching the donations tick upwards on our Buy One, Give One count and knowing that other people around the world will be able to clearly see the important things in their lives, too

World Sight Day is all about looking at what we can do to help the entire world see better. I’m proud to work for a company that gets to make eyesight its mission and I’m humbled by the support we get from our customers – aka YOU.

Need to see it to believe it? Here’s what we’ve been able to do, all thanks to you:

•	We’ve committed 660,000+ pairs of glasses through our Buy One, Give One program
•	We’ve equipped 7,000+ kids across Canada with free eyewear as part of our Free Glasses for Kids program
•	This year, we’ve given out 400+ pairs of glasses at shelters and resource centres in our local community
•	We launched a range of $9 prescription glasses to make sure more people can afford the vision correction they need
•	We offer comprehensive eye exams in all of our stores at a competitive price of $95, which includes a full health scan with the best technology out there

Each of these numbers means that somebody gets to see the important things in their life, clearly. Whether they’re reading, writing, or studying. Travelling, pursuing a hobby, or spending time with someone they love. They can work, live, and see the things that matter most to them.

Now, if that’s not eye-opening, I don’t know what is.
