It's here. Challenge 1 of the Low-Light Readiness Challenge is live, and it starts with the flashlight you're carrying right now.
Today's challenge answers the first question: do you even have the right equipment?
Most people think owning a flashlight means they're prepared. It doesn't. There's a real difference between owning a light and being ready to use one — and almost nobody has ever stopped to audit the gap. That's what today is about. Not training, not technique. Just an honest inventory of what you actually have.
Here's what to do:
Go grab your everyday carry light — the one that's actually on you, not the one in a drawer. Look up its specs on the manufacturer's site, the box, or the manual. Do the same for a weapon-mounted light if you run one. Then fill out the short audit on the challenge page. Takes about ten minutes.
Can't find a spec? Say so on the form. That's a legitimate answer, and honestly, it tells us something useful.
A couple of quick things to know:
Everything lives on that one page. Whichever challenge is current opens automatically, and if you ever miss one, just click it to expand and catch up. Nothing disappears. Finish all four and you'll earn the Low-Light Readiness badge, plus $5 in store credit.
And remember, all of this builds to the live session on Thursday, August 13, where Dan Brady breaks down everything the challenge reveals. If you're not already registered, make sure you do that here.
Train well,

P.S. The next challenge is a different animal entirely. Today you look at your gear. Tomorrow you find out whether you'd actually make good decisions under pressure — and it's not what most people expect. See you then.
