Tap. Rack. Still dead.

Tap-rack. You have run it a hundred times. Click instead of bang, hand slaps the magazine, palm rolls the slide, back in the fight.

It works on a Type 1. It works on a Type 2.

On a Type 3, you tap, you rack, and the gun stays dead.

A double feed happens when the extractor fails to pull the spent case out of the chamber. The next round feeds in behind it, the two jam against each other, and your pistol is a paperweight. Clearing it means stripping the magazine, cycling the slide three times, reloading, and racking again. Both hands. Several seconds. A clear head.

Here is the part that should bother you: you have almost certainly never cleared one on the clock.

Type 1 and Type 2 are simple to practice. Drop a dummy round in the magazine, get a click instead of a bang, run your drill. There has never been a way to do that with a double feed. Instructors have had to stage them by hand on a cold gun, which teaches your eyes what one looks like but never teaches your hands what one feels like in the middle of a string of fire.

The Type 3 Malfunction Round is the only thing on the market that fixes that. It loads into the magazine alongside live ammunition, produces the real sensation of a double feed, does no damage to the firearm, and works in both live fire and dry fire.

P.S. An officer in my hometown of Arvada was shot twice after his handgun malfunctioned during an exchange of gunfire. I do not know whether clearing it faster would have changed the outcome. What I do know is that Murphy shows up uninvited, and the malfunction he brings is the one tap-rack cannot touch. Train it before you need it.
