The eyewear talk before outdoor range season. If you have a big head, this one's for you

The indoor range was fine for January.

But the sun is back, the outdoor lanes are dry, and pretty soon most of us will be shooting in glare, dust, and whatever bugs decide to fly into our shooting bays. This is the time of year I take a hard look at my eyewear — both what I wear every day and what I throw on at the range.

A few options worth a look as we head into outdoor season:

You don't have to spend a lot. The Henry Rangeview is $19.99 and gets the job done — lightweight, impact-rated, no fuss. If you've been shooting in your everyday sunglasses (no judgment, we've all done it), this is the easy fix.

My personal pick: TacticalRx Little John. I have a big head. If you have one too, you already know the squeeze most "safety glasses" deliver after thirty minutes on the line. The Little Johns fit me without crushing my temples, and that alone earned them a permanent spot in my range bag.

One frame, three lens sets. If you want clear (low light), amber (contrast), and smoked (bright sun) without buying three pairs of glasses, the SSP Chelan AST Kit is the move. Comfortable, affordable, and you'll never get caught at the wrong lens for the conditions.

Already have glasses you love? Then it's not new lenses you need — it's a way to keep the ones you have alive. The SSP XHD4 case protects glasses and earbuds together, which is exactly what most range bags don't do well.

We carry options from $19.99 all the way up to $399.99. Whatever you spend, just make sure you're heading into outdoor season with something solid between your eyes and a hot brass casing.
