Early Spring is the time of year when it’s impossible to wear the right clothing all day…  it rains in the morning and is warm by 5 pm… or snowing! I always remember the old english ditty ‘ne’er cast a clout till May is out’ but with global warming I arrived last week in New York with ice floating on the Hudson and freezing temperatures and left three days later in brilliant warm sunshine…
 
Men, who I believe have it easier than women at this time of year sartorially, can always take a jacket which they can layer cleverly and still look elegant.  
 
And interestingly there has been a lot of press coverage recently on the new style casual jacket – the over shirt. Connolly embraced this staple of a man’s wardrobe from day one – a beautiful deer skin mechanics shirt when we opened was followed by various cashmere iterations and this Spring we have a range of more casual, country style wool and cashmere blend shirts in checks and herringbone but we also have the perfect suede version. Originally inspired by Alain Delon in Sous le Soleil, the new season’s suede shirt comes in a lighter weight softer suede in rich dark brown and pale beige with two patch pockets.
 
The elegant piece works over a finer knit polo, a classic shirt and especially our fine cashmere silk t shirt with jeans or more formal trousers and fits under a mackintosh or a heavy coat.
