In anticipation of any holiday, whether a summer escape, a winter retreat or a long weekend, I’ve never mastered the art of remaining calm and collected. Instead, I find myself with a quiet, almost childlike excitement. Packing isn’t only practical; it’s part of the pleasure. Each piece earns its place, chosen not only for its purpose but for the satisfaction it brings. Bringing out the Seabag always feels like an indulgence, yet its thoughtful functionality proves itself time and time again.
It’s often the smaller companions that become indispensable. The zip-around travel wallet keeps passports, receipts and currency in perfect order, while the travel pouch gathers cables, plugs and AirPods, then becomes an equally useful companion during the day, sans bulging pockets. The cigar case promises a future moment with a Quai d’Orsay. Then there’s Cuir de Connolly, in a perfect travel size. I can’t quite explain why, but I reach for it far more often on holiday than I ever do at home.
The Greenwich Suit forms the backbone of my wardrobe, separating effortlessly into different combinations. Lightweight shirts in a variety of fabrications offer versatility, whilst a favourite pair of jeans always earns its place. A fine merino polo is dependable when the evening cools, and a scarf always finds its way into the bag. I rarely wear it myself, but I like knowing it’s there should my wife, Avril, need it.
For me, packing is where every holiday truly begins, and with Connolly, I am always travelling in good company.
