Family,

We’ve just learned that a man caught on video storming the Capitol on January 6, a man who pleaded guilty to participating in that attack, now has a job at the Pentagon.

Someone who stormed the Capitol, Elias Irizarry, who was a 19-year-old student at The Citadel military college in South Carolina at the time of the attack, has now been hired to a post in the Pentagon’s Special Operations and Low Intensity Conflict office. The duties of that agency include operations such as embassy security, personnel recovery, and hostage rescue.

According to the Washington Post’s video analysis from Jan. 6, as well as the sentencing memo, Irizarry was in the Capitol for more than 20 minutes. He entered a Senate conference room and was photographed sitting in one of the committee chairs. Then he went to the Rotunda and climbed onto a statue of Ronald Reagan for a photograph.

A man caught on video — and sentenced — for storming the Capitol has no place in a sensitive counterterrorism role at the Pentagon.

If we don’t win back the Senate: This administration, enabled by extremist MAGA allies, will continue working to hollow out the institutions that keep us safe.

We have a real shot at putting an end to this unchecked abuse of power if we flip the Senate blue this November. Will you step up with a donation to help make that work possible?
