I just got back from four very full days in New York and somehow managed to fit in a truly unnecessary amount of food, shopping, and my first US Open. I came home with a full suitcase, a few new favorite places, and a reminder that there’s no better place than New York at the beginning of fall, humidity and all. Here’s everything I wore, ate, bought, and loved from my trip.
DAY 1 For my 6 am flight, I wore my go-to plane outfit: a white T-shirt, sweatshirt, necklace, barrel pants, and loafers. My airport dressing philosophy involves maximum comfort without looking like I wore pajamas on purpose. I arrived that afternoon, showered, unpacked, and changed for dinner with Cristina. We started at Stars for ice-cold glasses of orange wine. It’s an adorable little wine bar in the East Village with a cozy, neighborhood-y feel and a small but well-curated menu (my friend Greer said the blinis with ham & maple butter were among her best bites of the year!). We already had dinner plans, but it’s definitely a spot I’ll return to next time I’m in town.
We then walked a few blocks over to Claud for dinner and ordered nearly everything on the menu: sungolds with zucchini and basil, cucumbers with anchovy vinaigrette, scallop skewers with lardo, beef tartare with horseradish, and more. Everything was excellent, but the desserts, particularly the rice pudding and devil’s food cake, somehow stole the show. DAY 2 We had plans to shop all day, so naturally we needed a hearty brunch. We went to Jeffrey’s Grocery for eggs, avocado toast, and latkes before making our way to Arcane, voted one of the best coffee shops in the world, for iced flat whites that were as good as Cristina claimed.
