Guys, I’m taken aback. A full day’s holiday for my birthday. You didn’t have to.
Especially since I had to work.
And you have the cheek to call it “Labor Day” instead of Steven Day.
Let’s get to the points:
Cheers,
Steven

Which Card to Grab Now That This Favorite Is More Expensive
|
|
Look, it’s my birthday. Jess is taking me out in a little while. You’re probably in a bad mood because you had one too many beers yesterday at your Labor Day party. I’ll keep today snappy.
If you’re a business owner with $5,000 a month in expenses or more, then you need to seriously consider this card.
It was revamped last year, alongside the personal version, and ticks a ton of boxes when it comes to smart earnings, high-end perks, and all-out scope. As usual, the suits don’t let me talk in detail about more than one perk, so I’m going to focus on the current elevated introductory offer of 200,000 points, earned by spending $30,000 within six months of opening an account.
That feels like a ton of spend, but spread that far across a year, it’s actually super attainable for a lot of businesses. I’ll be sliding it into Jess’ to-do list this week, in the hopes she fancies a new card.
But 200,000 points is a lot — especially when I value them at around 2 cents each. That’s on average, by the way, there are plenty of situations where you could get far more — which I’lll show you in a second.
It’s a serious bonus, and a remarkably attainable one by most standards. If you’re put off by the high annual fee, just do the math and see where you come out. There are tons of handy benefits on the card that are pretty applicable to many business owners- day-to-day, so it shouldn’t be hard to cancel out the damage done long before you start earning the points.
I’ll leave the high-level pitch here, and in the next section, I’ll show you some of the stuff you could do with the points.
Check it out in detail here

Mad Stuff You Can Do With 230,000 Point
|
|
I’m using 230,000 as you’d technically have at least that much after hitting the spending threshold. Plus, it gives us a little extra to play with, and it makes it all very exciting.

Fly to the Middle East in the Best Business Class Seat In The World for Less than $10
It’s hard to explain just how good the Qsuite experience is. I spent 27 hours in that beautiful little suite on the way to our retreat in July, and I didn’t want to leave. Not only is the thing huge — I was sprawled out as a 6’4 man — the food is exceptional; I tried every cocktail on the menu, and they plow you with champagne if you ask for it.

You can transfer 83,000 points to JetBlue and pay just $7.95 for the flight, or 70,000 points with a bit more in fees to Qatar itself. That’s an almost $10,000 seat you’re getting for pennies. That’s incredible.

Spend Four Nights In The Alila Ventana Big Sur
|
 |
|
This might be a hard one to find at this rate — unless you book last minute like I’m showing you here, but in theory, you could spend four nights in the spectacular Alila Ventana Big Sur Resort in California. Standard rooms in this place regularly go fo $2,500 to $3,000, making a four-night stay worth up to $12,000. And you could technically grab it for free. I am in no way saying this would be easy, and you’d almost certainly be completely dictated by the dates available, but it’s possible.

Fly The Insane Singapore Suites from New York to Frankfurt
Annoyingly, I can’t show you this one in a search format as Singapore recently blocked searches if you don’t have points with them, but these flights do exist. If you can find Saver rates, you can book flights from NYC to Frankfurt in the incredible Singapore Suites — which is basically a bedroom for yourself. These can go for over $7,000, but you can grab them for just over 100,000 points.

Fly Cross-Country 18 Times (Or More)
|
 |
|
This is by no means a sexy redemption. But it’s just highlighting the potential you have to travel around your own country a ton. Flights from New York to LA, and the other way around go from around 10,000 points, varying by date and different airlines, but that leaves you with the potential to fly across the continent almost twenty times. That’s mad.

Points Problems
|
|
Let’s see how much you know about points with this little situational dilemma.
You’ve got 60,000 points and need a flight that costs either:
-
$540 cash
-
42,000 points + $11.20
At this point, do you swing for the points? Or cough up the cash?
And here’s a twist:
The same airline is selling a $1,400 business-class seat for 55,000 points + $47 two months later.
Do you stick with the cash rate? Drop 42,000 points? Or wait and redeem them for the business-class seat?
Let me know what you’d do and why here.
