From Monterey to Manila: Delta Adds 5 New LAX Nonstops
|
|
My camera roll seems to accrue faster than I can keep up with, and Delta is now presenting five more reasons to leave our luggage by the front door. The Atlanta-based carrier is expanding its West Coast footprint, launching five brand-new nonstop routes out of LAX Airport between this October and April 2027.
This latest expansion pushes Delta's direct reach out of LAX to 64 destinations. The carrier is adding new international routes plus a mix of high-demand domestic ones, from long cross-country hauls to quick West Coast hops. More nonstop options, fewer wasted hours connecting.
New nonstop routes:
🇨🇦 LAX to Vancouver: Starting November 21, Delta will fly this route twice daily on an Airbus A319. It's actually a comeback route. The airline served this route before, up until 2018.
🇵🇭 LAX to Manila: Beginning in March 2027, daily on an Airbus A350-900. Delta will be the only US airline flying nonstop between LA and Manila, a route that's long been dominated by Philippine Airlines. It’s nice to now have the option to avoid a layover in Asia or the Middle East and stack up SkyMiles.
🌊 LAX to Monterey: Starting December 19, twice daily on a SkyWest E175, Delta will be the only airline flying this route nonstop, and it's a real time-saver. Driving up north yourself from LA can take over 5 hours to cover just 320 miles along that coastal stretch. This launches right at peak Big Sur and Carmel-by-the-Sea travel season, so book early if you're eyeing a winter coastal trip.

Air France Is Building Its Largest Lounge Outside of Paris at JFK
|

Pre-flight Clarins facials, flowing French Champagne, and chef-curated dining: Air France is bringing Parisian luxury straight to Queens. The carrier just announced a massive 29,000-square-foot flagship lounge set to open in JFK’s new Terminal One in 2027, and it’s bound to redefine the pre-boarding routine for transatlantic flyers.
✨ Lounge deets:
The lounge spans two full floors and holds up to 400 people, and it's clearly built to be more than a place to kill time before boarding. There are quiet zones if you actually want to get work done (or just decompress), a beauty and facial treatment area for a pre-flight pamper session, showers, and a bar stocked with French wines and Champagne. For food, expect real sit-down French dining, not the sad pre-packaged sandwich situation most lounges have.
The new flagship space will welcome Business Class travelers and SkyTeam Elite Plus members. If you're flying La Première, though, you get your own separate world entirely: a private enclave inside the lounge complete with an exclusive fine-dining menu crafted by a famous French chef.
This buildout leads up to Air France's full operational move into JFK's New Terminal One, which finally debuts early next year. Once open, the lounge will support up to six daily nonstops to Paris CDG, including up to four operated on retrofitted 777-300ERs featuring the updated La Première suites. I have a feeling once I get to visit, I’m going to wish my layover was longer.

As an Angeleno, I feel it is my duty to share parts of Los Angeles that tourists miss. Definitely on their first visit, and even on their fifth, most people barely scratch the surface of what this city actually is. Please resist every urge to set foot on Hollywood Boulevard, or waste a reservation at Craig's or Catch, and just trust my judgment on recs instead. I would never, ever steer you wrong, and frankly, I'd take it personally.
Jot these down:
🌹The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens in San Marino span over 150 acres, with manicured gardens, including a Japanese garden, a stunning rose garden, and art like Gainsborough's The Blue Boy. If you love afternoon tea, make a reservation at the Rose Garden Tea Room ahead of time for finger sandwiches and scones with a view of the roses.
🎤 Micdrop in West Hollywood: A new karaoke spot right on the Sunset Strip, so you've got plenty of bars to hop between before or after. It has a community room for singing and private rooms if you're planning a party. I went this past weekend and sang until my vocal cords were shot. Genuinely one of the more fun nights I've had out in a while.
☕ Dolcevita Coffee on 314 North Western Ave is by far my favorite spot in LA for coffee and ceremonial-grade matcha. It's far from where I live, but I make the drive when I'm craving it. It's family-owned, and the owner, Will, is the sweetest, clearly grateful for the little community that's built up around the place, and it shows in how genuinely he listens to customer feedback.
My go-to order: almond croissant and a latte de olla or an iced matcha latte with agave.
🦐 If you want authentic Mexican seafood, Mariscos Guillen La Playita is a tiny food stand with a walk-up counter in Santa Monica (also in Hawthorne) serving passing customers. It’s consistently fresh and delicious.
What I recommend: Camarón and pulpo tostadas, carne asada burrito, ceviche mixto, and one of each taco.
