Every time I come back to New York, I find myself gravitating toward the Hudson Valley, thinking, "ah, it's only an hour drive," and then somehow end up in Rhinebeck three hours later, stuffed at some farm-to-table spot I definitely didn't plan on finding.
This past holiday weekend, I drove up yet again to visit Blooming Hill Farm (only 60 miles north of Manhattan), an organic farm known for its seasonal produce and on-site farm stand. It’s delish! I'm one more trip away from saying "I think I want to move here."

TSA PreCheck Launches Gateside Program

For decades, the airport terminal gate was where romance lived. The backdrop to tearful, lingering goodbyes and sprint-through-the-terminal reunions worthy of a movie climax. Ever since strict post-9/11 security rules restricted gate access to ticketed passenger zones, those cinematic moments were pushed out and replaced by rushed hugs at passenger drop-off areas. Now, a nostalgic shift in travel policy is bringing back those heartfelt gate-side hellos and goodbyes.

TSA PreCheck has launched a new perk called Gateside that lets members clear security without needing a same-day ticket. The obvious use case is meeting someone right as they land or keeping a friend company during a layover, but eligibility is open, so if you're the type who just wants to spend an afternoon plane-spotting or grabbing airside food for fun (if you can call it that), you would also qualify.

Right now, Gateside is still in its pilot phase, but it is available at 13 airports, including Little Rock, Columbus, Dallas, Detroit, Indianapolis, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Mesa, Oklahoma City, Omaha, Salt Lake City, San Diego, and Wichita. The good news is that TSA says more airports will get added in the coming months, so if yours isn't on the list yet, it might be soon.
It’s easy to get access. Once you log in to login.gov, you can submit your request between 1 and 3 days before your visit. You'll need an existing PreCheck or a Known Traveler Number to qualify.

Asia was already on my mind, and I've been bouncing between the idea of Taiwan or back to Japan for about a month now, but I didn’t want to pay over $1,000 on a round-trip fare. Well, the universe and STARLUX must've been listening, because now there's a sale that gets both options down to $799 round trip, and that was all the convincing I needed.
✈️ The deets on getting to Asia:
Taiwanese airline STARLUX’s Labor Day sale is getting round-trip fares to Asia down to $799, flying out of five US gateways: LAX, Ontario, San Francisco, Seattle, and Phoenix, to Taipei, Bangkok, Manila, Saigon, and cities across Japan.
The travel window covers early December and then again from December 24 through the end of March 2027, so it lines up nicely with year-end trips for the holidays, like Christmas or New Year's in Tokyo, or Lunar New Year in Saigon. No promo code needed to get the discount, but you do need to book by September 15 to lock in the price. If you’re a COSMILE member, you get an extra perk of bonus miles on any flight taken before March 31, 2027, on top of the discounted fare.
If you didn’t know, STARLUX has new partnerships with Alaska and American. Now you can book one ticket from places like Denver, Chicago, or Newark straight through to Taipei with your bags checked all the way. New Expedia Sale Drops Discounts on Hotels and Rentals

Expedia's turning 30, and to celebrate three decades, they're throwing travelers a discount of up to 30% off select hotels and rentals through next spring. A headline discount through March sounds great for a warm-weather escape, but "up to" is the catch; that’s why I’m going to share where the real value lies.
Beyond hotels, Expedia is also offering up to 25 percent off package bookings and running app-exclusive flash deals for extra OneKeyCash. The real strategy here is the flight-and-hotel bundle, which I think is the best way to beat direct hotel pricing thanks to hidden wholesale airfares. The trade-off is the rewards program itself, as Expedia wiped out base earnings on flights, meaning your overall OneKeyCash return will be way lower than the sticker price implies.
My advice: Skip the big chain hotels for this sale, since giving up your status perks and direct points rarely pays off. Instead, look at independent boutique spots, all-inclusives, and vacation rentals where hotel loyalty programs do not mean a thing. You can pull 20 to 25 percent savings on places like Sandos Cancún, independent hotels across Europe, or mountain condos in Colorado, Utah, and beyond.
If you really want to bleed this sale dry, do not just click and pay like an amateur. Route your search through Rakuten or a shopping portal first to double-dip on cash back or airline miles, turning Expedia’s modest discount into more bang for your buck.
