I know pretty much everyone is excited to have free Wi-Fi rolling out on most planes, but if I’m being honest, I prefer to keep my time in the sky internet-free.
I love having an excuse to not be doomscrolling, and I save up all my podcasts and audiobooks so I can listen to them on long flights.

Chase Sapphire Reserve celebrates 10 years with travel deals and a increased DoorDash credit

Well, in all my years I never thought I’d be saying happy birthday to a credit card, but cheers to you, Chase Sapphire Reserve!
Chase is celebrating the Sapphire Reserve’s 10th anniversary with a whole slew of travel deals and an increased DoorDash credit. Here’s what cardholders should know:

Get $125 back when you spend $500+ on an eligible IHG Hotel & Resorts stay in the US. Just make sure you activate the deal and complete the payment by October 16.

You can get $250 back when you spend at least $1,000 on a Miraval or Alila stay. Note: This offer only applies to those properties under the World of Hyatt umbrella in the US. Activate and complete your payment by December 14 to get this deal and all the ones listed from here on out.

Get $200 back when you spend $200+ on a semi-private flight with JSX. I don’t really see myself ever using this, but hey, you just never know…

When you spend $500 with the car rental company, Sixt, you can get $125 back.

If you book a vacation home with Wander and spend at least $1,500, you can get $350 back.
🤔 My take?
Overall, I’m not super impressed with these offers. I think these are great if you are already planning to book with those brands or you know you have a vacation coming up where these deals apply.
In all honesty, I think that the increased DoorDash credits Chase will be providing are far more advantageous to the everyday cardholder. Starting on October 1, the current $5 monthly DoorDash credit that cardholders get will increase to $15 per month! That’s a whole lot of extra value added up over a year, so I’m happy to at least be able to take good advantage of this.

As I mentioned in my intro, I love any excuse to not be scrolling social media, so here are my favorite non-internet recommendations for your next flight.
📰 My favorite non-phone activity
I absolutely love any type of puzzle, especially word-based ones, so you’ll understand why I subscribe to this monthly newspaper that is all puzzles. It keeps me occupied on flights and forces me to at least use one brain cell.
🎧 My favorite podcasts
I love saving all my podcasts and downloading them for my flight. I’ve realized that some of my favorites are dark and a little twisted, so consider yourself warned.

Listen to Betrayal Weekly if you love true crime and podcasts featuring real, dark stories.

Check out Petty Crimes if you like a funny podcast with structure.

Try out From Lust to Dust for a podcast premise I’m too shy to even type out to you lovely readers (but I promise it's weirdly heart-warming).

Tune in to Love Trapped if you love reality TV and juicy dating stories.
📚 What I’m reading
Do you still count it as reading if it’s an audiobook? I’ll let you ponder that, but I love to close my eyes and focus on the story, and just now I’m realizing it probably reminds me of being read to as a kid.
Anyways, some recent reads include Circe, Yesteryear, The Perfectionist’s Guide to Losing Control (in case you were wondering what’s going on in my brain), and Goosebumps. Yes, that’s right, Goosebumps. I don’t care how old I am; I will always re-read those stories in the build-up to Halloween.
I recommend the Libby and Hoopla apps for access to thousands of free audiobooks when you link your library card.

I’ve always wanted to visit Japan so I can check out the many bonsai gardens, but after seeing this photo, I’ll have another type of tree on my list.
