America is celebrating its 250th birthday this year, and you don’t have to wait until July to take part in the festivities.

This list highlights 50 unique experiences—one for each state—that you can take part in this year. I guess taking part in something more unique is better than my original plan of grilling burgers and scream-singing “Party in the USA” until my lungs give out.

In today’s edition:

  • A limited-time offer worth 150,000 points

  • New Amtrak trains arrive in Seattle

  • Avoid lengthy UK lines with this trick

I’m still gonna do that though,

Arijana

Get Excited: Amtrak’s New Trains Have Arrived in Seattle

As someone who is from Seattle and loves a train trip, you can see how I’m personally invested in this latest development. The first Airo trainset has arrived in Seattle for its final round of testing on the Amtrak Cascades tracks.

I know I’m biased, but I think the Pacific Northwest is one of the most gorgeous regions in the country, so to have a European-inspired train experience travel from Vancouver through Washington and then Oregon, is long overdue in my opinion.

Now, I know that the word “Amtrak” doesn’t exactly conjure images of luxury to the mind, but these trains are much different than what you’re probably picturing. The Airo trains will have modern amenities, improved dining options, and bigger windows so you can actually enjoy the view.

Even the coach cars will have ergonomic seats and more legroom, charging ports, and even seatback tablet stands.

There’s no word yet on when bookings will open, but rumor has it that coach fares will be as low as $29 from Seattle to Portland, while business class on longer routes could be over $100. If all goes to plan, the trains will be full steam ahead by the end of 2026.

Families Should Use This Trick to Avoid Lines at UK Airports

I am going to be upfront with you all: I don’t love traveling through the UK. For some reason, I’ve always had the most stressful airport experiences, especially at Heathrow. So, when I hear that there is a new tool making it easier and faster to get through the UK airport, I’m all ears.

This summer, the UK is lowering the age required to use passport e-gates to eight years old. I know this might not seem like a big deal, but this will allow about 1.5 million children (and thereby families) to go through security much faster.

Previously, children needed to be at least ten years old, and before that, they needed to be twelve years old. As the technology has improved, the age requirement has lowered. Keep in mind that children still need to be at least 3’11’’ in order to be seen by the biometric scanners.

More than 290 e-gates across thirteen airports in the UK will be able to accommodate families even faster, and the great news is that not only does it apply to UK citizens, but also all citizens of EU states, the US, Australia, Canada, Japan, and more.

My hope is that the digital system will help families avoid lengthy lines and move through the airport a lot more swiftly. That being said, this change will go into effect in July, during the busy travel season. So, still be prepared to arrive with your family a bit earlier than normal and perhaps look into any airport lounges or play areas to keep the kids occupied.
