Well, I finally saw the Odyssey this week. It’s a story about a man who has a hellish journey home. I sat there and found myself completely relating to Odysseus.
Sure, I didn’t battle a cyclops or survive sirens, but I did once endure a 10-hour flight to Europe on a budget airline with no water. So who really had it worse?

Flying Blue just released a new batch of discounted award flights, and you can save up to 25% off on your next flight to Europe.
If you’re unfamiliar, Flying Blue is AirFrance and KLM’s rewards program, and though they fly all over the world, they have stellar deals to and from Europe. This latest set of deals applies to any trip booked in August with travel dates until January 31, 2027.
I highly recommend getting familiar with this rewards program and taking advantage of it, as many credit cards transfer at a 1:1 ratio to Flying Blue, including American Express, Chase, Capital One, and Bilt.
Some of the deals include flights like:

Speaking of awards flights, you may have missed Alaska and Hawaiian’s Atmos Members Day this month. They had some fantastic deals like Mexico City for 7,500 points or Tahiti for 20,000 points.

If you’ve never heard of Atmos Member Days, don’t worry, you’re not living under a rock. The program only launched back in June, but it’s definitely worth knowing about and being prepared for next month.
On the first Wednesday of each month, new deals are released for that week. Yes, it’s fast given that you only have three days to book, but the deals are incredible and worth a look every month. If you do the math, you can get award flights for up to 50% off!
To become an Atmos member, all you have to do is sign up online. It’s completely free, and you’ll also enjoy perks like free inflight Wi-Fi.

Now the deals alone are awesome, but I really enjoyed this video from MaxMilesPoints that shows you how to take advantage of the discounted awards and see two cities in one trip. Essentially, adding a stopover won’t cost you any additional points.

American Ends Free Upgrades While Allegiant Introduces First Class
|

It feels like I’m writing about a different travel perk being taken away every week. As premium seats become more expensive and luxurious, economy seats are becoming less and less bearable. Now, American is ending free upgrades to Business from Coach on long domestic flights.
It used to be that if you were a frequent flyer with American, you could upgrade for free. Now, if frequent flyers want to upgrade to business class, they will need to have bought a premium economy ticket already or pay for an upgrade.
Now, I know this is really annoying to people who are already so loyal that they are frequent flyers, but the change makes sense. It’s just another sign of how travel is trending towards premium services and the increased demand for premium services.
Overall, more travelers are seeking out premium travel and more and more flyers are willing to pay the price. So, instead of giving its premium seats away for free, American is finding a way to capitalize on it.
The trend is even showing on budget airlines. Just this month, budget airline Allegiant rolled out free drinks (that should be a basic right, in my opinion) and announced that they will be launching first-class seats next spring. So, if even the airlines built for the most budget-conscious travelers are getting premium offerings, I would expect to see an uptick in prices all-around. This isn’t just a passing fad, but a shift in the industry.
