Frontier Now Lets You Cancel for Cash, at a Cost
|
|
Frontier Airlines is handling budget travel's biggest headache by letting passengers purchase a Cancel for Any Reason add-on at checkout for a cash refund up to 24 hours before takeoff. It's a new option, powered by Hopper Technology Solutions.
Frontier's the first US ultra-low-cost carrier to build this directly into its app and website. Here's the honest read, though: the non-refundable fee runs 10-18% of your fare and adjusts with demand, so it's not cheap. Smart move for Frontier, though, as they get paid upfront for peace of mind while offloading the actual risk to Hopper. For pricier bookings, where a normal cancellation fee would wipe out your whole ticket anyway, it could genuinely be worth having.
💸 The breakdown:
Frontier's standard fares have been nonrefundable, meaning if you cancel a booking, you're hit with a $129 fee plus a travel credit instead of cash back (this has been the policy since June 2026). With the new Cancel for Any Reason option, you can add it at checkout, cancel 24+ hours before departure, and get cash back.
Travelers can choose 80% or 100% fare protection based on what they're willing to pay upfront. The catch is that the CFAR fee is nonrefundable regardless of outcome, so it's locked to your booking. It doesn't earn Frontier Miles, and it only covers changing your mind, not emergencies or lost bags. If Frontier cancels or changes your flight, standard rules apply, and you don't need CFAR at all.

The Cheapest Days to Fly During the Holidays
|
|
Flying on the holiday itself is usually cheaper than the days around it. If you know you have plans to leave town over the next few months, put pen to paper and take some notes.
Let's start with Thanksgiving since that's around the bend. Thanksgiving Day flights tend to run significantly cheaper than the Wednesday before or Sunday after, historically the priciest, most crowded days to fly. This year, the cheapest booking window runs from late September through late October, with fares expected to jump 25-40% for anyone still booking after November 10.
The same logic pays off around other holidays too:
🎄 Christmas: I always check December 24 and December 25 first, since those fares tend to run cheaper than anything from December 20-23.
🥂 New Year's: Same idea here. It's best to check December 31 and January 1, which usually price out lower. Try to avoid flying back on January 2-3 if you can help it, since that's peak return traffic with everyone trying to get back to work. This is where I'd stretch my PTO days.
This pattern is typically the same every year: prices spike when everyone wants the same flights, then ease up the moment demand shifts elsewhere. It's not subtle either. Some Thanksgiving routes have dropped as low as $38 to $120 round trip once you move off the peak days, and Christmas fares on busy routes can hit around $851 at their worst (usually the Saturday before Christmas) before falling to roughly $530 if you fly on the 24th or 25th instead. That's not a small gap.
The big takeaway: moving your trip by just a day or two can knock 20-30% off your fare. One more trick worth using: early morning holiday flights typically run 10-20% cheaper than midday departures, since fewer people want to be up that early on a holiday.

Regular camping and I don't get along; I'm way too particular about the bathroom situation, but I'll glamp, and even better, I'll camp under the stars on salt flats. Samkani Camp, opening on Bolivia's Salar de Uyuni in late 2027, is bringing five architect-designed Airstream suites (plus a sixth for dining) parked directly on the world's largest salt flat, with blue Bolivian marble interiors and metallic exteriors designed to reflect the salt and sky.
The camp is isolated, around 15-30 miles from any other development, so you're genuinely alone out there, but each stay comes with a private guide, a driver, and access to over 30 fun excursions like flamingo sightings, volcanic caves, and stargazing.
The name itself, Samkani, means "the one who dreams" in Aymara, and it's fitting: a silver Airstream parked on a boundless white salt plain under the Milky Way does look like something pulled straight from one's imagination. Once this is officially open for bookings, it’ll be a nice holiday present to myself.
