Alright, I have to admit something embarrassing: I work for a travel company, and I don’t have TSA PreCheck. Rightfully so, the entire company made fun of me during our retreat. It’s mostly because I usually fly through Burbank, which has such a short security line that it seems silly to go through the trouble of getting it, but I know it’s inexcusable.

I am determined to get it by the end of the year so I don’t get made fun of next year and, luckily, I’ll get reimbursed by my credit card.

Pro tip: That card also has a massive 100k bonus offer right now, but it ends at 9 AM EST on 7/30/2026.

POINTS AND MILES

Get a €7 Trip to Madrid With This Avios Tip, But Is It Worth It?

I’ve always heard about how great Avios flight redemptions can be, but they’ve always seemed like fables. The thing about Avios reward seats is that they are a great deal, but they are hard to find because most routes only offer two reward seats in Economy and two in Business Class.

Now, British Airways has launched Avios-Only flights, meaning every seat is a reward seat, so they are a little easier to get. The folks over at Business Traveler did a great job diving into what it was like to book a trip with Avios points on a three-day trip from London to Madrid.

Their team was able to book a long weekend in Madrid for only seven euros, including a flight, hotel stay, and a car rental. The quick breakdown is as follows:

The flight from London to Madrid cost five euros plus 28,000 Avios Points. The hotel was only one euro per night but 58,200 Avios Points per night, but it was a five-star hotel in the heart of the city. Last, but not least, the car rental was one euro plus 6,500 Avios Points.

💸 Is this a good deal?

My short answer: (Mostly) yes.

I think the deal on the flight is pretty great. Given that so many credit cards count towards Avios Points, I think it’s relatively easy to rack up points towards a reward flight. I likely wouldn’t blow mine on a four-day weekend, but I’d certainly take advantage of the Reward flights.

The car rental is also a stellar deal and a strong return; however, the amount of points used for the hotel accommodation is something I’d be a bit stingier on. Without using points, a hotel like that would have probably totaled to about 2,000 euros; however, I think there are nice hotels that aren’t five-star that would be a lot cheaper to stay at. Of course, if the hotel is the destination for you, then, by all means, please ball out, but I personally don’t like to spend that many points on a hotel per night.

My recommendation? Sign up for Avios alerts to be the first to know of any reward flights (it’s easiest to sign up for flight alerts in the app). From there, do the math and see if it makes sense to use your points for a hotel or to book for cash. Read Business Traveler’s full breakdown here.

What If Cravings Aren’t Your Fault?

Did you hear about the group of PhD scientists from Johns Hopkins, Harvard, and Stanford who walked into a lab—and left with a breakthrough probiotic in hand?

These scientists cracked the gut-GLP-1 connection and figured out how to bring live Akkermansia muciniphila to the probiotics market.

The final result of their work? Pendulum's Metabolic Daily probiotic.

This particular strain is so groundbreaking because it can strengthen gut lining, reduce bloating, and improve metabolic and digestive health.*

Users report:

  • 91% reported fewer food cravings**

  • 88% saw reduced sugar cravings**

  • 72% felt less fatigue***

With more than 15k medical provider recommendations, 4.5k mentions of Akkermansia muciniphila in scientific publications, and loyal customers like Halle Berry, this stuff sure sounds promising.

Try Metabolic Daily probiotic yourself and take 48% off. HSA/FSA eligible.

MIDDLE EAST TRAVEL

Dubai Launches Refer-A-Friend Program, Rewarding People With $800 Per Visitor

Desperate times call for desperate measures, and it looks like that’s how far Dubai is going with its latest travel program, the Dubai Invite program

The Iran war has deeply impacted tourism in Dubai, so this is the government’s attempt at drawing in more visitors. Essentially, if Dubai residents invite friends or family to come visit anytime between July 20 and October 31, 2026, they can get up to 3,000 AED, or $817 in benefits. They can receive up to three benefits packages.

Now, that seems like a pretty sweet deal, but, to be clear, this doesn’t mean that residents get $800 directly deposited to share with their guests. Think of it more like a coupon booklet. For example, you’ll get access to deals like 35-45 percent off of hotels, or two-for-one dining deals, or free amusement park tickets. All those discounts, totaled, might add up to $800 dollars.

This is a pretty clever way to draw tourists in, and I’m all about extra savings, but just make sure you do the math of how much you would be saving. If this is a travel deal that entices you, and you know someone who lives in Dubai, they will need to submit a form with their Emirates ID and their guest’s personal details.

Our Quick and Dirty Guide to Salt Lake City

Our team just wrapped up its yearly retreat in Salt Lake City (SLC) this week, and I’m so pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. SLC is definitely a haven for outdoor adventurers and those who enjoy watching gorgeous sunsets over cascading mountains (I mean, who doesn’t)? All in all, the trip was amazing and very relaxing, so here’s our quick and dirty guide to Salt Lake City!

🥾 What to do

The greater Salt Lake area has no shortage of outside adventures, so activities like bouldering, river rafting, and pickleball were all on the docket.

I highly recommend the rafting tour we booked with Pro Rafting Tours. It was a more relaxed rafting tour down the beautiful Provo River; there was even a fun little stop to do a rope swing.

If you’re up for a major athletic feat, you can do what a few of our teammates did and participate in the Speedgoat Mountain Race, where you sign up for anywhere between 10k and 50k races up in Utah’s finest mountains.

That’s less my speed, so I opted for a leisurely (but maybe too hot) hike at Secret Lake so I could be among all the wildflowers. I had no idea Utah had so many colorful trails.

🍽️ Where to eat

I wouldn’t necessarily describe SLC as a foodie city, but we had some very delicious meals. The two standouts were Laziz Kitchen (don’t skip the beignets) for delicious Mediterranean fare and Casa del Tamal for amazing Mexican cuisine and comically large sparkling lemonades.

😎 What to pack

The best thing I packed for the entire trip were these water sandals I got at Walmart for $16 bucks. They are so comfy and could go from the water to dry land without a hitch. I wore them every day, and it really helped my feet recover from all the adventuring we were doing.

I also highly recommend packing lots of sunscreen and lip balm with SPF in it. Luckily, our CEO and COO also gifted the whole team sunglasses from Goodr, which were the perfect outdoor adventure glasses as they specialize in not bouncing while doing activities.

🎉 Other fun things to know

One thing that really pleasantly surprised me about SLC was how many fun activities there were to do at night. Practically every bar had games (we went crazy playing Mexican Train every night), trivia, Bingo, and more.

Just know that the cocktails at the bars seem a lot smaller than they do in other cities, so if you want the most bang for your buck, go for a beer. Also, be prepared to have your ID scanned in every bar regardless of whether you are drinking. And if you want a drink at a restaurant, you’ll be required to order food.

Cheers to a wonderful week in Salt Lake!
