Before we get rolling, I wanted to let everyone know that we’re trying some new things here at Dollar Flight Club. As part of those changes, we’re pausing Room Service at the end of the month. It may return, but I can’t give you a definitive answer on that yet.

If you still want your hotel fix, don’t worry—we’ll be consolidating all our destination guides and hotel news into our sister newsletter, The Navigator. Click here to subscribe if you’re not already on the list.

But, we’re still here for now…so let’s get to this week’s Room Service.

In this week’s newsletter:

  • The best camping spots in the world

  • Wyndham will pay you $15k to eat cheese

  • Hilton gets more than we expected

Cheers,

Steven

Hilton Adds Almost 400 Hotels to its Portfolio

Hilton dropped some big news this week, announcing the arrival of almost 400 new hotels into the Hilton Honors program. This is great news for Hilton loyalists, like myself.

🤔 What’s happening?

Hyatt and Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLHW) ended their partnership in May this year. Despite the arrival of the new Mr and Mrs Smith platform, it was widely viewed as bad news for Hyatt fans even though there were some incredible hotels in there.

But, Hilton is reaping the benefits and has now partnered with the platform. It was originally estimated that only around 100 hotels would be joining Hilton Honors but 390 have now gone live in the Hilton Honors system.

🏨 What exactly does this mean?

Hilton hasn’t acquired these properties. It’s not running any of them. These are all independently operated properties that opted to be featured on the SLHW platform for added exposure. You can book them on Hilton as you would any other property—and that includes with points.

We should be happy about this. One of the greatest criticisms any of us can have about big brand hotels is that sometimes they can feel a bit similar. The big names have been trying to combat this with things like the Curio collection, but adding SLHW into the fray gives us the ability to book a huge selection of unique hotels using our points.

Check out some of the standout properties here.

The Worlds Best Campsites

Five-star suites are nice and all, but sometimes it’s worth forgoing the luxury to enjoy sleeping under 100 billion of the real thing.

Yes, this week, it’s less Room Service and more National Park Ranger Service (badda-boom). We’re taking a look at some of the greatest camping spots in the world, from wild pitching in the Scottish Highlands to watch towers on the Great Wall of China, as well as US national park you might never have heard of.

The Weirdest News Story of the Week: Wyndham’s Cheesiest Family

Sometimes there’s important hotel news like the Hilton story.

Other days, there’s headlines like this.

But, it’s real. Wyndham Hotels is in search of “America’s Cheesiest Family.” To be specific, it’s Wynham’s mid-range brand Americinn, and it’s looking fo “a dynamic family with a passion for cheese, a love for adventure, and a knack for social media.”

Why in the hell would you want to apply?

Because they’ll give you $15,000 and set you off on a cheese-fueled roadtrip across the Midwest.

🧀 What are the details?

The successful family will receive a $10,000 travel stipend to cover any airfare or cost incurred during the trip, plus a $5,000 cash prize. The seven day trip will have hotel accommodation covered (AmericInn, obviously), so if you’re from the region and can keep your costs down, you can hopefully hold onto a good chunk of thay cash. Or go wild…buying cheese?

To sweeten the deal further, Wyndham will also grant you Diamond status with its loyalty program, a suitcase full of AmericInn swag, and…lots of cheese. Yeah.

All you need to do in return is document it all on social media for the company. Easy.

🤔 How to enter

Entering is simple. Click on this link, film a 60 second video explaining why your family should be crowned the cheesiest in the US and send it to the email address listed on the site. Don’t forget to add a picture of the family (eating cheese, perhaps?), where you’re from, and links to your socials.

Applications need to be in by 11:59 PM ET on July 30, 2024, an you must be available to travel on or around August 23 to August 30. The winner will be announced by August 13.
