When Taylor Swift said, "Summer slipped away like a bottle of wine," that really resonated with me. I refuse to let a summer weekend go to waste, so here's your weekend to-do list:

🎉 Are you using the weekend to book your next trip? (If you read our tip of the week below, you’ll see why that’s a good idea.) But here’s another tip: You can save up to 17 percent on your hotel booking during Hilton’s latest promotion.

😎 Taking off this weekend? Here are five things you should do before you leave for summer vacation.

💸 If you’ve been thinking about opening a new credit card, there is no better time than right now. One of our favorite travel cards is offering its biggest bonus yet. We don’t know when the 100k bonus offer will disappear, so just take five minutes out of your weekend to apply.

🍦 If you’re looking for a fun summer activity this weekend, how about visiting the most iconic ice cream shop in your state?

Updated guide: The cheapest day of the week to book your flight

I’m going to get straight to the point. The short answer is that there is no single “best” day to book a flight anymore. However, certain days are better than others. Here’s our quick and dirty breakdown of the cheapest day to book your flight:

  • Booking on a Tuesday is no longer a reliable booking trick.

  • Sunday is often the best day to book. Recent data shows booking on Sunday can save about 6 percent on domestic flights and up to 17 percent on international trips. But remember, the day you fly means more than the day you buy.

  • Friday can also be a good day to buy.

  • Tuesday and Wednesday are often the cheapest days to fly. Flying midweek can cut fares by 10 percent to 30 percent.

  • For domestic trips, book 30 to 45 days before departure.

  • For international trips, book two to eight months ahead.

Another thing to keep in mind is that prices can change many times a day, so fare tracking beats waiting for one magic weekday. If you wait too long to book, prices can jump drastically. Booking within 14 days of departure could cost you 20-30 percent more!
