As Market Editor at Dwell, I have the privilege of spending a lot of time looking at beautiful, well-considered furniture and objects. As pleasant as it all may be, the most exciting moments of my job are when I’m learning about the work of emerging designers. It’s always a pleasure to talk to people who are still figuring out exactly how to bring their visions to fruition. I talk to people who could spend hours discussing the details of a vase, or a bowl, or an ottoman; I meet people who’d rather do anything but make small talk about the things they’ve spent tens of hours working on, yet it seeps into conversation anyhow. More often than anything else, it must be said, I’m just gleaning this enthusiasm from Instagram comments. Nonetheless, it’s exciting to be let in on the process. 

These conversations (and scrolling sessions) were put to use when assembling this year’s Dwell 24 list of the most intriguing emerging designers, which I co-curated with Adrian Madlener. Our selection includes people from across the world, with a wide variety of different disciplines: textiles, ceramics, woodworking, glassblowing, and much, much more. After eight months of work, it’s finally ready for you to read. I hope you’ll enjoy learning about these makers. For now, I’ll return to strolling and scrolling around, hunting for designers for next year’s edition.
