We are pleased to present the latest issue of WE – World Energy, Eni’s quarterly magazine exploring the dynamics and global challenges shaping the energy sector. While issue 68 looked at the new frontiers of space, this edition turns its focus back to our planet and the essential resources that sustain its balance. Through in-depth analysis, interviews and feature articles, “The Nexus – Energy, Food, Water” examines the close interdependence between water, energy and food, highlighting how their integrated management is crucial to the resilience of global systems.

Three resources, one interconnected system
The nexus is clear: energy production depends on water resources, water management requires energy, and agrifood systems rely on both. As resources become increasingly interconnected and mutually dependent, WE highlights the importance of addressing security from a cross-cutting, systemic perspective.

This is why it is essential to move beyond sector-based approaches in favour of an integrated framework that enables planning, diversification, innovation and cooperation within a shared vision. The aim is to understand and manage these interdependencies, turning the connections between resources into a driver of resilience and competitiveness.

The experience of the Gulf countries
This approach is already delivering tangible results in complex contexts such as the Gulf countries, where integrated solutions, from renewable-powered desalination to the reuse of treated wastewater for irrigation, are demonstrating the effectiveness of innovative approaches and coordinated risk management.
