Fleas and Ticks
Protect Your Dog from Fleas and Ticks

Summer can be a fun and active time of year, but it does come with its annoyances and even dangers.  Among those are pests.  Fleas and Ticks pose additional risks because of the diseases they can carry. Here are our top 5 tips to protect your ESA from these fleas and ticks.

  1. Ticks are perhaps the most dangerous of the summer pests.  Check your dog thoroughly including paws and armpits when coming in from outside, particularly after hikes or extended time outside.
  2. Keep grass trimmed and dispose of the trimmings away from pet areas.
  3. Vacuum and wash bedding frequently to prevent fleas from gaining hold in your home.
  4. Remove tick habitat from your yard.  Ticks love low brush and high grass, so consider landscaping that eliminates this sort of plant life.
  5. Take to your vet to see what type of medical prevention is appropriate for your dog, household, and yard. Follow all directions.  Some yard and home options can be dangerous for pets.
