The Hottest Days are Here

The hottest days of the year are typically at the end of July.  Although it has already been a hot year, it's not a bad idea for a little refresher on heat safety.  After all, dogs have unique needs when it comes to heat and cooling, so it is important to understand how to help.

• Limit walks to early mornings and evenings.  Avoid sun and the heat of the day.
• Avoid hot payment.  Try dirt and grass trails, parks, or go early in the morning just before sunrise, when the pavement has been cooling off all night.
• Offer plenty of water throughout the day.
• Never leave your dog in the car.  Not even in the shade, not even for a moment.
• Try to keep your home cool.  Use fans, close curtains to block out the sun, and run AC if you have it.  Inside can become just as hot and dangerous as outside under certain circumstances.  These tips will protect you as well.
