Top 5 Summer Travel Tips

If you have some late summer travel or even just a long weekend away from home planned, we have a few tips to help you make the most of it and keep your dog healthy and happy on the road.

1. If your ESA doesn't usually ride in cars with you, practice in the days and weeks leading up to your trip so that your ESA feels comfortable.  Make these experiences positive with treats, praise, and a fun destination.  Remember, a car restraint for dogs and riding in the backseat is safest for you and your dog.
2. Some dogs, like some humans, suffer from car sickness.  Feed them 1-2 hours before leaving to help minimize incidents.  Pack cleaning supplies. and be sure to practice car rides ahead of time in short but positive ways.
3. Remember to never leave your ESA in the car, even in the shade, or even for a moment.  Cars heat up quickly in the sun, and sometimes things take longer than expected.
4. Plan your trip in advance.  Having your destination planned ahead of time and fun pet-friendly stops along the way to enjoy with your ESA will lead to memories that will last a lifetime!
5. While traveling, a collar, leash, and ID are more important than ever.  Consider microchipping your ESA if they are not already, and make sure your phone numer and contact information is up to date if they are microchipped.
