My name is Jean Polsky, and I own Estella with my husband, Chike Chukwulozie. I am writing to thank you for subscribing to our newsletter and to tell you a little bit about myself and Estella.
I was born here in New York City and have been interested in fashion since I was old enough to figure out how to dress myself. I went to Harvard college and business school and my first job was at the beautiful Bergdorf Goodman shop, and professionally speaking, I haven’t strayed far from the fashion industry.
In 2002, Chike and I opened Estella, an eclectic, designer baby clothes and high-end children’s clothing boutique in New York’s Greenwich Village district. The concept behind Estella was to bring the amazing, artisan-inspired kids’ clothing that we saw abroad and marveled at to the US market.
To fill gaps in the market, I started designing our own line of artisan-made baby clothes and toys. Handmade in Peru using soft organic cotton, these collections took off and we started selling them not just to retail customers, but to Barney’s New York and other boutiques nationwide. Soon the press noticed and our designs were featured in Vogue, People magazine, Vanity Fair, Buzz Feed and more.
To focus on this line, we closed our physical store in 2013 and now sell solely through our retailers and on our online shop.
