The sad thing is, what Young figured out wasn't about deodorant, it was about using shame as a tool to SELL MORE STUFF.
And once you recognize it, you see it everywhere. Especially today.
Because consumption seems to offer temporary relief from 'not enough-ness'.
Which makes me wonder: is shame the core at the root of our overconsumption? And why, no matter how much we buy, it never quite feels like we have enough?
Deep thoughts I know, but fundamental.
And now I'm thinking I've even used this tactic too - fear of climate change, shame of plastic use...
And that's why my new mantra is REST IS RESISTANCE, the idea being that, when we are tired, worn out and overwhelmed, we are more prone to consumption of food, unneeded shopping and news consumption or doom scrolling.
So by resting, taking a break, going out in nature, we are actually performing one the most powerful acts of resistance.
Thanks always for learning as I learn - and don't forget today is your last day to get a 2 FREE organic body bars.
