If you are trying to conceive, you’re likely aware of common tips and tools such as ovulation tests or basal body temperature. But what you may not realize is that your own cervical mucus is one of the most accurate and accessible fertility signs.
Cervical mucus changes throughout a woman’s cycle, shifting in volume, pH levels, and consistency. When your cervical mucus is scant, thick, or acidic, it can impede sperm transport and reduce your chances of conception.
Fertile-quality cervical mucus appears as you approach ovulation. It has a sperm-friendly pH level and hydrates and protects sperm as it helps ease the way through the cervix toward the egg.
How do you know if your cervical mucus is fertile quality? Look for more abundant, clear, and stretchy midcycle mucus to determine if you are in your fertile window and it’s time to conceive.
