| Dear Fellow Genealogist,
When you’re not sure what to do next in your research, think big. Sure, you could think big picture. But I actually mean something else: Think of the big genealogy websites.
At Family Tree, we tend to call them the “Big Four”: Ancestry.com, FamilySearch, Findmypast and MyHeritage. Each site is constantly growing and changing, making them places to explore new avenues of research when you’ve hit a dead-end. Today’s newsletter features an article on a trio of such tree-organizing tools at Ancestry.com: MyTreeTags, Ideas and Stickies.
Each site has its own strengths and weaknesses in terms of record coverage, tree-building tools, DNA compatibility, and so on. An article below compares the four along these lines—a “buyer’s guide,” if you will (though FamilySearch is totally free to use).
The Big Four also have wide user bases and tools for collaboration. (And isn’t connection what genealogy is all about?) So we close this newsletter with tips and tutorials for sharing family stories through the big websites.
Thinking big,
— Andrew, Editor of Family Tree Magazine
