There’s a point every year when you can feel the season starting to turn.

The mornings are cooler. The light changes. The fields look a little more golden around the edges. And somehow, right when you think summer is winding down, the flowers seem to decide they have one more really good show left in them. That’s where we are right now.

September is one of our favorite times for field grown flowers because so much is happening at once. The dahlias are finally hitting their stride — big, wild, beautiful, and in colors that somehow feel exactly right for this time of year. The garden roses are giving us their last flush of the season. And the heirloom mums are just starting to open, which always feels like the moment fall officially takes over.

It’s a really good few weeks. And it’s also a short window. Because isn’t life always like that? But that’s just farming. Things don’t bloom because a merch calendar says they should, although wow, do we wish they would! They bloom when the weather, the soil, and the season tell them to. Which is exactly what they’re doing right now.
