Iâve been wanting to do this for a while: a little Sunday note from the Farmquarters about whatâs growing, what weâre cutting, what weâre learning (usually the hard way), and whatever else feels worth sharing from the garden that week. And of course, Iâm starting this at the end of summer. That tracks⊠;)Â
The garden and greenhouse are, without question, my very favorite places at the Farmquarters. If I have ten free minutes, thatâs where I go. If Iâm having a bad day, thatâs where I go. And if I disappear and no one can find me, thereâs a very good chance Iâm out there checking on my plant babes or starting some new ones, which we probably donât need, but it sure does lower my stress level, so Iâll keep doing it. I guess I consider it my form of meditation.Â
So, welcome to Sundays from the Garden.Â
Right now, the gardens are in that wonderfully unruly late-summer phase where everything seems to be blooming at once. The dahlias are finally showing off, the zinnias and cosmos are cranking, the sunflowers are doing their very best to tower over everything else, and the sweet peas and wisteria are taking over everything it can sweet, including the string lights, nearby fences, literally everything they can reach.
We also have lilies and alstroemeria blooming, so basically every walk through the garden turns into me saying, âWait, look at THIS one,â approximately seventeen times.

And because I donât want these Sunday emails to only be me talking about flowers (although, fair warning, there will be a lot of that), weâre going to occasionally include something fun from life around the Farmquarters too.
For our inaugural edition, that means Kitâs Famous (to us!) Second Serve.
We are so fortunate to have Kit as our Director of Product, but in her previous life, she was a kind of big deal bartender, so lucky us, huh? This is her very favorite thing to make and it pairs perfectly with a stroll through the garden on a Sunday. We hope you love it as much as weâve loved sampling them here!Â
Thatâs it from the garden this Sunday. I hope wherever you are, something is blooming nearbyâor at the very least, your cup runneth over with Kit-s special!Â
See you next Sunday-ish. (Iâm already giving myself a little grace on the scheduling part.)
xx,
Christina

Iâve never been to the US Open (although a family I used to dog-sit for hired me to be their driver for it once!), but if I were ever to go, this would definitely be the drink Iâd want to be seen sipping while watching a match. The honey deuce is cute and all, but I think this drinkâs equal parts sweet, tart, and sparkling flavors work much better for the occasion than whatâs essentially a fruity vodka lemonade (despite the cute garnish and despite fruity vodka lemonades usually being my thing).
This might seem like more ingredients than you want to invest in, especially to make a cocktail you might not have tried before, but I promise it's well worth it, and the amaro and sherry have plenty of other uses. The Amaro Montenegro is delicious on its own, goes well in a bunch of other cocktails, and is a pretty bottle for your bar cart or shelf. The fino sherry is really just a dry white wine that also works in a bunch of other cocktails - especially a few amazing martini variations. Just keep it in the fridge once you open it!

From Dan Greenbaum at Attaboy in New York City:
1 ounce Amaro Montenegro
1 ounce fino sherry
1 ounce fresh lime juice
0.75 ounce simple syrup*
Cold soda water

Combine everything but the soda water in a cocktail shaker. Fill with ice, close the shaker, and give it a short, hard shake. Break the shaker open, and strain into a Collins glass filled with fresh ice. Top with cold soda water to fill the glass, give it a quick zhush with a cocktail spoon or straw, garnish with an orange moon, and serve!
