One of the things I've learned over the years is that what people think of as "premium" flowers isn't always about price. It's about how they feel.

You can take relatively affordable flowers and make them feel incredibly elevated, and take very expensive ones and arrange them in a way that somehow falls flat. It's not just what you use. It's how you put it together.

A few things consistently make the biggest difference:

FULLNESS (NOT SIZE)

Bigger isn't always better, but fuller almost always is. Flowers with a high petal count—peonies, garden roses, ranunculus—feel more abundant and more special. It comes down to how much presence a bouquet has, not how big the flowers are. They tend to look romantic or whimsical in a way that makes you feel something.

MOVEMENT

This is one of those things people don’t always notice consciously, but they feel it immediately. When everything's cut to the same height and packed in tight, it feels stiff. A little looseness—stems at different heights, textures doing their own thing—feels more natural and alive. If you do one thing, stagger the stems. It instantly looks more designed.

COLOR

This is where things can go very right or very wrong—and where it can actually be harder than people think. It's less about matching and more about belonging. Too many competing tones read as chaotic; colors that live in the same world feel calm and polished. When in doubt, pick two and blend them out with softer versions. My always-works combo: pink and orange, blended with blush and peach.

PRESENTATION

The same exact bouquet, or even some standard red roses, can feel completely different depending on how it's wrapped. Clean, simple, thoughtful wrapping lets the flowers be the star. Think of how stiff and impersonal plastic cellophane feels. You know we love a burlap wrap, but you can also swap it for tissue or even kraft paper, and suddenly it feels like something special.

At the end of the day, premium isn't about the price of the stems. It's fullness, movement, color, and presentation all working together—which is exactly why two bouquets with the same flower cost can feel worlds apart. It's honestly one of my favorite parts of what we do: taking something simple and making it feel really special.
